I've been deer hunting in Illinois all weekend, and just got home to post some results.
We shot 4 does and a button buck, ranging from about 70 lbs. to the largest doe I've ever seen down, close to 200 lbs.
She was as big as all but the largest buck I've ever shot, and I finally got to try out my David Farmer L6/bamboo skinner.

I truly believe this knife gave me more pleasure to use than any I've ever tried. With it I field dressed two deer, including the big doe,
and skinned another, a small button buck. The large doe had ribs a full 5/8" thick, and the L6 steel chopped through them with great efficiency and no chipping.
A few passes over a steel and stropping on cardboard brought it back to shaving sharpness in about 2 minutes. Thank you David for a great knife.

Nice clean no-nonsense knife and L-6 treated well makes for a great cutter in my experience although we do not see that many knives that utilize it these days. Sounds like a great weekend all around.

You killed a poor little innocent deer? You meany! :D I have never killed any animal except for a few I've hit along the road. I'd save an animal before I would a person. LOL

Honestly I know many who hunt and I see nothing wrong with it but I just couldn't do it. I love animals.

Also about the knife and the point of your post, I'm glad its working out for you.

on killing & knives. l6 is a primary alloy used a lot in past in saw mills. real tough , i think it has some nickel in it. when i starting taking my son out we discussed killing. i told him you ca'nt justify killing but you do'nt have to. no one would think less of a man that did'nt want to kill animals.

Wow, that does sound like one big doe! I'm glad to hear that it worked well for you. I just picked up the knife in my avatar from David here on the For Sale forum recently. I've used it for some stuff around the house so far, but was looking forward to breaking it in during deer season. Unfortunately I didn't get anything yet this year. The antlerless portion starts Wed and runs till the 5th on this side of the river, so hopefully I'll still get a chance to use it.

Absolutely. I started taking my son hunting with me when he was very small.
Last year was his first season that he could hunt himself. He is 13, and hunts with a bow like dad :D
I told him it was up to him if he hunted. I would never force it on him. He loves animals, and has talked about being a Veterinarian when he gets older.
He enjoys being outdoors and is starting to really get enthused about hunting. He now understands that most hunters truly care about animals, but you can still hunt.

Its not for everyone and that is fine.

It sounds like you had a good season BM and will be well stocked on Venison  Thats great that you got to use your new knife and just as important, you like it. A hunting knife is a very personal thing, and one that you truly like, makes all the work much more enjoyable.

The hunters I know including myself loves nature and animals. In this parts anyway hunting is a deeply rooted cultural thing done with great respect. Its a big responsibility to do right for the ones with the interest.
Interesting knife, starting this authumn I have realy started to pay attention how different patterns and sizes of fixedblades have become general users in different parts of the world.
