superglue + G10 ?

the pocket clip screws on my new manix keep working themselves out every few hours and i am planning on using superglue in lieu of locktite. from my younger plastic modeling days i recall that some superglues will cause very noticable "clouding" of sorts on some plastics (excuse the ambiguity). will similar clouding show up on G10 if i use a small amount of superglue to secure the screws in place?

The clouding is actually caused by oils and other residues on the surface. What happens is the superglue actually bonds and dries to those, causing a clouding effect. That is why superglue is used to pick up fingerprints by the police. Try it sometime, its tons of fun to make a fingerprint out of superglue.

You can use super glue on the G10. I know several guys that have done that same thing for the same reason as you.

I usually install an inlayed titanium plate behind the screws in the back side of the scale for wood, micarta, or G10 on the knives I make or install clips on so there is some metal to thread into besides the scales.

I think many of the manufacturers are convinced that G10 is stronger than it may actually be for this kind of requirement. The same thing happens with other knives I have with G10 scales with pocket clips so it is not all that uncommon. I just got a Protech Pro-Duke in the mail this morning that has one of the pocket clip screws stripped out on the G10 scale and it has been fixed with super glue just as you are contemplating.

For what it is worth I prefer the locktite super glue gel for this over the liquid.

The G-10 should be fine. The only thing to consider when using superglue in blind holes (the clip holes on the Manix are not blind, so you should be ok), there might not be enough air around to let the superglue to cure properly. Loctite was formulated specifically to cure without access to air. There is a red formular which is stronger than the standard blue stuff. Its also important to remember that loctite is actually also a glue so you need to let it set (about 24 hours for full cure). Meaning no clipping or preferably not using your knife for about a day.

Hope you have success.
