Superleaf Owner Question

I've owned my Superleaf since 2012. At the time I was torn between a PM2 and the Superleaf. Since I was so pleased with my Delica and Dragonfly in VG-10, I decided to stick with what I knew. I'm so glad I did since the Superleaf was discontinued. I'm always impressed with the smoothness of the pivot. Sometimes more so than my KVT equipped knives.

Something I noticed that I've never really thought about is the knife's handle and G10 scales. The handle width grows at the lanyard standoff. It increases from 0.45" to .0.50" at the loop. Is this typical of the the Superleaf?

I carry tip up, right side and the G-10 scale on the heel is not sitting flat to the steel liner. The opposite scale sits flush with the liner. It almost appears the liner is bent, preventing the scale from laying flat.

Thanks for the help.

The lanyard tube is not flared on the ends. Each end of the lanyard tube should be flush with the outside of a scale. My guess is that the lanyard tube is not flush on one side. The screw holding the clip screws into a spacer. I don't see how the spacer could be misaligned in a way to cause the scale to not lay flat against the liner.

The entire handle flares wider at the tube and is then clamped more narrow at the clip screw/standoff

I've never had another Superleaf to compare. I've asked Spyderco customer service, but they want me to send it to them for inspection.

My knife is about 0.458" wide throughout. Standoffs are 0.200" and 0.199" long. Lanyard tube is one piece with narrower ends like a rolling pin. Overall length is 0.454". Length of the inner thicker portion is 0.195 - 0.196" long. Outer thinner ends are about 0.128" long. If your problem is due to the dimensions of the lanyard tube it's going to be the inner thicker portion being too long, IMO.

I used T6 for the small screws and T10 for the pivot and clip screws.

Have you taken the liners and scales off to see if they're warped?

BTW the standoffs are not interchangeable. The post for the clip only goes through one of them. Nylon pivot washers- didn't know that.

Maybe the screw is not in the liner and was misaligned when someone put it in?

That looks like a bent liner to me. In that photo, the scales are parallel and the liners are not.

If it's been like that since you've owned it, you should send it in, that's a manufacturing defect that needs to be fixed.

PS: that dimension is thickness. Width is across the flat of the handle. Not trying to be pedantic, precision of language helps problems get solved faster!
