I am looking for a supplier of precision ground D2 with the lowest prices. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I'm looking at buying 1/8" - 5/32" & 3/16" thicknesses.

Do you hear that?
That is the sound of inevitability.

Koval Knives sells D2 in all kinds of different sizes. I can't remember if it was blanchard ground or just hot rolled though.I haven't seen it anywhere else, so I don't know how they compare on prices. How long of pieces do you want it in ?, if I find my catalog I'll let you know the price.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Barry,

Admiral steel has prec. ground D2 at about the market rate, which is pretty high to me, but they are a good dependable supplier. Also Texas Knifemaker supply carries hot rolled annealed D2 at VERY reasonable prices which they will blanchard grind for you at an additional charge.

Unfortunately, none of the precision ground steels are anywhere near cheap.

Good luck.

sheffields sells ground d2 also....its pricey stuff even when its hra...good stuff. rusts a little too easily for me...for the price you can get cpm steels/they hold an edge better than d2, and are more corrosion resistant...(most of them anyway)

Try Eastern Tool Steel. They sell D-2 FGS at 30-40% below listed prices. Call them at (814) 834-7224.

I just bought some steel from Admiral, but not D-2 -- too expensive to try on my first knives.

K&G has much lower prices on D-2 than Admiral, but don't have any selection; all they list in their catalog in D-2 is 5/32" x 6" and sell it for $32 a foot, which works out to $0.44 per sq. in. The closest size Admiral offers is 5/32" x 3" x 18" for $74.93, or $1.38 per sq. in.

Fortuneately, Admiral's prices on 1095 are much more reasonable, and that's about all I'm willing to risk on my first attempt to grind a blade!
