I have spent a couple hours looking and I keep finding the wrong stuff. I need a source to buy telescoping tubing (round) either thin wall steel or aluminum AND connectors for 3way and 4 way corners, compression nuts, threaded inserts, sliding collars, screw set collars and connectors. This would be for 3/4" to 1" range of tubing. The corners may be couplings like a PVC type corner or a poly insert plug type deal.

I have googled my brains out but I must not be using the right search phrases. I've also turned to the bible of building, the MSC catalog. No luck.

If you think about various photo tripods or metal/tube rack systems or even camping tent frames, something like that you are on the right track. I keep finding all kinds of electrical or plumbing fittings or couplings but not 'construction' type fittings. Any pointers to a source would be greatly appreciated. To make this a legit on topic post, this is for a light tent for knife picture taking. I've made one with PVC pipe but I'm looking to make a little better unit. Thanks for any help.

There is always McMaster-Carr www.mcmaster.com . Reid Supply Company www.reidtool.com has all kinds of specialty hardware, they may have something like what you are looking for. I don’t have my catalog handy, but they have a system of components for making work stations, etc., but I think it was square tube not round.

IIRC, Ganoksin & Brain Press have some DIY articles on jewelery photography, including making your own light tent. As a close-to-last resort, have you looked at eMachineShop.com? Their software is easy enough to use, and their prices seem pretty good, considering the small production run size... I can't speak to their quality, though.

I might have some old tripods upstairs in my storeroom. Let me know if this is what you are looking for and I will check for you. They are in various states of disrepair but the legs are still good.

have you looked into copper and fittings?
also it might be heavy but they use Black iron for rails on walk ways too.
I'm sure there are three way connectors in that, if you could get down to
1/2" it may work for you.
