Just a quick question. 8670 and 8670m steels are really difficult to get hold of in the UK, and given the ridiculous tarif trade war, I'm not even going to touch American goods until the debacle is over. Are there any non-USA based suppliers of these two steels?

Re: GFS Knife supply, I got my 8670m from you, it's brilliant stuff. I just wish I could get more of it from you. I've even used an offcut of 2.3mm to make a big belt buckle for a kilt belt. Are you going to supply any more?
Re: eurotechni, this is the first time I've heard of you, so I'll have a browse on your Web site.
Thank you both for your swift reply.
Yours sincerely

8670 and 8670m are SAE designations. Amercan names

Iif you want euro sources try DIN German British, Jap, French names

The DIN (German Institute for Standardization) equivalent for AISI 8670 steel is 72NiCrMo4-2.

Google AI gives this result,

  • AISI 8670: This is the designation used in the United States by the American Iron and Steel Institute.
  • DIN 72NiCrMo4-2: This is the corresponding designation in the German DIN standard.
  • Other Equivalents: GB - 20CrNiMo, JIS - SKS5, UNS - G86700, W-Nr - 1.2703 Mod

I'd substitute it with 1.5634 (german 15N20, also known as 75Ni8), should be too close to notice a difference in practice and is very easy to get in europe
