Hey everyone. So I am builidng my first gas forge and wanting to start to make damascus and mokume..

I can't find anywhere in my area to buy 1084, 1095, 15N20

Can anyone help? Also what would be best thicknesses to ask for?

And now the mokume.. Love copper, brass and silver or 15n20 Where can I find that stuff?

Oh and one more question.... Nickle silver for bolsters. Mickley makes AWESOME knives and his bolsters are amazing!!! I would like to find some material like that to use and try out.

Again thanks for all the help and advice.

I like Spaenaur for many things.
They are suppliers to Fastenall, Brofasco, Weber Industial Supply and put out a great catalogue and price list.

But if you can get it locally without a drive, buy it where you can.

copper
Brass
1095 (blue spring shim steel)
You can get these as shim stock from local suppliers.

Never found it here, ship it in from
Kelly Cupples or
Aldo

They will cut it to size in strips for you.

Try kawartha metals (peterborough) ontario. There prices are better than any i have found. They also deliver from toronto to ottawa with there own trucks!

As Patrice said, Knifemaker.ca has all of those and no worry about duty or anything like that.

do they have the higher carbon alloys? There's 4140 listed on their site and some tool steels but not what the op was asking about... I'd love a local source!

Nothing against knifemaker.ca, first class to deal with but it's not cheap to ship low alloy steel to alberta then to ontario

There website doesn't list everything. Try emailing or calling them to see what they have or can get.

I deal with knifemaker.ca (awesome to deal with) also but alot of times they were out of stock when i needed it.

I tried to find plain carbon steel a while back and spent many hours looking for a source in ont. but had no luck i get mine from Rob as well. With the price of cross border shipping it is not feasable to order it from the states unless you have some way to get it here cheap.
