I don't usually get into these type of things but our boys need all the support they can get right now. As an ex-Marine I can tell you the best present I could have received during my time in Nam would have been a quality knife. I'm suggesting that some of us "adopt" a soldier, Marine, or whomever and send them a knife! Let's get this going and send our brothers in arms a knife! I'm in contact with an Army Paratrooper and I'm sending him a top quality Mission MPS-10. Don't send them junk, send them a piece that might save their lives! God bless these troops that are showing exemplary bravery!

I may be interested in doing this(if I have enough funds).... I mean comon guys these are the kids MY age that are defeding our liberties!

Gene- Please tell us a little more on what are the requests for a blade. I am not a military expert but just from my knowledge, arent there different needs for diff class soldier? ex: front lines need a huge baby like a double edged dagger and maybe someone working mech or recon maybe needs more of a multi-tool. Again I am not shure but let us know!

Already have, but it's a good idea..due to physical problems, I was never allowed to join the military even though that's all I ever wanted as a kid, so I have a long standing tradition that whever a friend goes "overthere", I send them off with one of my knives as part of their gear. As I write this, one SAK is in Kuwait after my friends special ops unit was dropped off in a city in Iraq, they came uner such heavy fire they had to be extricated out by chopper to Kuwait.

The second one is leaving with it's new owner in a few days.

Aniketos,
Yes, they ARE young but we all were once and it makes me proud that the youth of today are still "kick-ass!" I didn't mean to infer that just because I have a knife to send, that I am better than those that don't. I just think that our troops could use some knives. Send the BEST you are capable of.

Good point as to WHAT type of knife to send! As a vet, I can say that a good all around fixed blade would be in order. One that would serve equally as well to open a can, a letter, spread peanut butter or a...well, you get the idea! It doesn't matter in what capacity one of our troops are serving and it wouldn't matter the size of the knife but I would say about a 4" blade or larger. Either a leather or kydex sheath would be fine because they are not in a tropical climate like Nam. I like your idea of a Leatherman tool or the like because I'm sure any or all would be appreciated but remember, a fixed blade wouldn't need sand cleaned out of it!

Get an address of one of our troops. If you don't know how, go to a local church, USO or write or call your local newspaper. Then write him or her and ask them what they would like. I'm sure you will make a friend for life!

We're all in this for the long term now and we need to do what we can to support our troops and what could be better than sending them a great tool such as a knife!

I would be interested. Only problem is I don't have near enough money to buy a decent knife. If we could pool together, and get a few people to chip in whatever they can, and buy a soldier a knife I would be in.

How would a double edged peacemaker be from Cold steel?

Are they good blades?

If that isnt a good choice lemme get some suggestions for a real baddass knife that a soldier would really like. Please keep in mind I am not a millionare but ill send something that I would use on my own things.

I have sent 12 blades,KABAR and coldsteel,I have a cousin and brother over there and I have sent as much as I can,I sent them 6 to each unit for guys who are walking around with crap.I just sent them to my cousin and brother to hand out,They were all very thankfull for the knives.
But the most important thing you could send these guys is letters of support,They appreciate this the most,There is nothing better for them then a simple hey I support what your doing and a Thank you,you wouldnt believe how far that goes.
They hear about the protest, but what they dont hear is WE SUPPORT YOU and are THANKFULL for fighting and risking your life for my family.
If ya cant send a blade, send a letter you wont believe how good that makes them feel...............Its the least we can do.

A becker knife and tool 7inch utility or 9inch combat bowie would probably make a good gift, and it wouldn't break the bank either!

Just a word of advice; while I think this is a great idea and if I were there I would certainly be glad to receive one, be sure you send any package to a specific soldier, sailor or marine. The military won't deliver any packages that aren't addressed by name due to anthrax/terrorism concerns. Apparently they're being overwhelmed by packages for "any soldier" and they're also clogging the postal system. My suggestion would be to try to contact at least one individual, then send him a dozen or so to distribute among his squad or platoon. Just make sure he's trustworthy! As far as what to send; multi-tools are used by everybody, Ka-bars and Beckers would be great choices as well. And of course Busses, Striders or Reeves would be great but I doubt many can pony up that kind of cash. If I get sent over there after I'm done here, I think that I'll have a Becker #7 riding on my hip, just my preference. I'll second what FEATHERSTONE said too, drop a letter or two into the package with the knife. Baby wipes are a soldier's best friend in the field too. I'd like to thank you for your support of those guys and all of us, it really does mean a lot.
