I am supposed to go to Orlando on Sunday. With the hurricane coming, would you go? There is a pretty good chance it wont even hit Orlando, but there is also a good chance it will. My tickets are non refundable, and so are my hotel reservations. Anybody from Florida have an opinion? If I do go what kind of extra precautions would you guys suggest.
Thanks,
Kyle Fuglesten

I live in Port Charlotte, the place were Hurricane Charley just hit last month. Stay away! Be safe!

DO NOT GO. There may be a special exception for this type of situation. I'd really push to get a refund, change dates, or location of travel. I don't get to travel very often so I'm not familiar with the process. But, this is definitely a special circumstance. Florida officials are expressing concern about the safety of those good samaritans here assisting from other states. The lives of these good people are being threatened by this storm. Unfortunately, most of these people know how to help after a hurricane strikes but have no idea what to do if caught in the middle of one. This will lead to many more injuries and potential deaths. :( STAY HOME. WE DON"T WANT YOU HERE. :)

Play the odds. Come on down and have fun. The storm has slwowed a little and won't be close by Sunday. It is also projected to go further west. Ortlando is back and running with full power etc. Besides that you shouldn't face too much traffic coming into Florida, more will be going the other way!

What you may face is more rainy, windy weather than usual, but will have plenty of warning if you need to find safe shelter. It might be an adventure. Don't listen to those partypooping naysayers.

The precautions I would take would be to fill up with gas when you hit town and buy some bottled water and non perrishable food as short term emergency supplies if power goes out. Also some light source and batteries.
