I was at a show this weekend and I saw an interesting frame lock knife made for Sure Fire (the flashlight company). Imagine my surprise when the guy asked $350 for it! That wasn't just one dealer--another flashlight dealer had one and was asking even more.

For that kind of money I could have one made to my exact specs by a custom maker!

Anybody know who is making these knives for Sure Fire?

Don't know who's making them, but I saw one at a show and quality was VERY high.

I think that guy was asking $250.00.

Steve Ryan, i believe.
and the quality is top notch
I know guy that rated SF LEO higher than the Sebenza.
I bought SF Alpha lately, very nice knife.

I can't remeber who it was but I was told that the SF knives were made for SF by a custom maker. They are a top quality knives.

I believe they are designed by Steve Ryan and cut out by top notch CNC machines.I've seen the Delta folder.A little gimicey but very well made.

I too believe the SureFire line of cutlery is designed by Steve Ryan.

While it's not made by hand, it is manufactured through the use of CNC machines from premium materials---the same 6061T6 aerospace grade aluminum, anodized, that goes into their flashlights. The blades are Crucible S30V, if I remember correctly (at least one model was). You will be hard-pressed to find a custom-made folding knife with such tight tolerances, made from such materials, at that price level. In fact, in tactical applications, the higher tolerances allowed by a custom-designed, CNC machine made knife could make it more reliable than a fully handmade piece (though for EDC I'll take the flair, art factor, and genuine performance of a custom any day!) if it had a flaw in it.

Just think of it this way:

SureFire M6 flashlight is to Maglite as SureFire Delta is to Buck 119.

Each of the cheaper variants can get the job done, but...

Well, you know that argument.

I've always wanted a Delta, but I could never justify the price.

Just Picked one up (Delta) two weeks ago at a great price. I bought it used but it was in very good condition. The frame lock works like a bank vault. Very secure. The flipper is my preferred opening method. I notice the frame has a "hinderer" style frame stop which is one of the nice features provided. As a LEO/Rescue blade it has all the bases covered with the built in window punch and seatbelt cutter. I really dont see myself using the wrench in the frame but at least it cuts down on the weight.

I had a chance to talk to Steve Ryan a few years ago at a show when the Surefire line of knives began. From what I gathered it sounded like he designs them and puts them together himself.

Interesting. Just yesterday I was at a hardware store and the Echo Fixed-Blade Combat/Utility Knife was in the Surefire display case. It was sheathed and I hadn't given it much thought until I read here that it is a high quality knife. Now I'm thinking if I should get it. There aren't any choices where I come from; the law is strict on importing knives and there aren't any stores around you can choose a Busse or an Emerson.

$350 for that ugly knife?
You could get Strider RCC at that money, or give the monoy to poor people.:D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She looks sexy to me:-) Nonetheless, regarding value, The delta has a titanium framelock, crucible S30V blade and other production features items built in like the cutouts in the frame, cord/seatbelt cutter and the more machining/labor you add will increase the price of a blade. My blade was used, yet the blade was perfectly centered and the framelock is solid. Would i like to see this blade for 99 bucks, sure! But it is not overly priced when compared to other titanium frame high quality production folders. FWIW.. i paid less than 300 bucks for it.

Are the rest of them chisel ground like the Alpha. I would probably order a couple if I was sure they weren't chisel ground.

I just came back from the store that has a Surefire Echo is a display case. I wanted to confirm the price. As it turns out, it is an equivalent of US$486! Bloody rip-offs. Surefire's website's price is US$300.

I know the Delta is not chisel ground.
