I have a surefire defender and would like to know if there is anyway for me to change the light on format? When I switch it on, the low light comes on first. I would prefer the higher intensity light to come on first. Can I do this ??

Ask over at candle power forums... but I think using the clickie off a E1b or E2d led defender would do it.

But uh, you sure its not a counterfit or frankenlight? My e2d led defender starts on high. The website says it starts on high... i think its the outdoor and executive series that start on low...

I agree with sirahren, the E2D LED is a self defense light and should come on in it's highest setting first. I think the E2L turns on at low. Maybe is a E2L with a crenellated bezel.

The LED Defender comes on high first. Is your light pointy on the ends?

You mean the bulb? No.it is round. The box and the light says E2D LED Defender. I bpught this at agun show from a Surefire dealer. I still have the low output on before the high when I switch it on. I am calling Surefire tomorrow. Thanks.

Well then damn, that thing's broke. Good plan calling SF, they don't respond to email that well.

It's not broke - when Surefire first came out with the updated version, they released a batch of these lights that came on as:

Off > Low > High >Off

I don't know how many are out there, but they're hard to come by. Just so ya know. :)

This thread seems resolved, but just as a note, the high low output control is actually in the head on most Surefires. taking the head off one light and putting it on another body would give it the change in output modes, but the tail cap won't

I think if you bought a drop in for it it would also change things. Most guys change the bulb out anyway for something that more suits their needs. I have a G2L I got from a member here that runs at 200+ lumens for about two to three hours on fresh batts. I got a 6PL Defender Coming with 285 lumen Upgrade. I'm gonna buy a Malkoff M60LL for one of them (Probably the G2L) that runs at around 80 lumens for a constant 8 hours and then reduces for about another 6 hours. It'll be my general SD light. 80 Lumens is plenty to see what you're shooting at.

Appreciate all the input, guys ! Just talked to technical service and they say to send it in for replacement. They did say they never did this where it starts of low then high, though.

I thought it had to do with the contacts and resistence in the actual tailcap. Didnt realize it was electronically controlled in the head... I know the runtime regulation is done up there via a chip but... but good to know thanks!
