I have been thinking about getting myself a Surefire e2 after reading all the positive reviews here. My only concern with it is that it does not have a switch lockout. I plan on carrying it clipped inside my left front pocket and I am wondering if anyone has a problem with the light being turned on accidently when carried like this? I am also wondering about how long the bulbs last barring the light dosent get dropped, ect?

Thanks

SureFire has just released an improved version of the E2 called the E2e that offers a lockout tailcap, pyrex lens, waterproofness, and an anti-roll bezel. The regular E2 does not have these features. It sounds like the new E2e may fit the bill.

The E2e will soon be available from retailers, but is currently only available from SureFire themselves for $85 shipped. The light comes with two SF123A lithium batteries and right now only comes in the hard anodized green color (HA).

Hope this helps,

...and to answer your question directly: SureFire claims a bulb life of APPROXIMATELY 30 hours for their bulbs. Also, in all the many times I've carried my E2 clipped inside my front pocket, I've never had it turn on accidentally, but the lockout tailcap couldn't hurt though either.

I used to carry a E2 in my pocket, but when I sat down, it turned on...So I bought a kedex holder, and it sits bezel down on my belt in the kydex. The E2e is nice, but with the new price increase, is way overpriced in relation to function.

toolguy, I've had my E2 for a while and haven't had a problem with it switching on while clipped to my pocket, but I'm most likely not your height, weight, "geometry", etc, so the dynamics change greatly from one person's pockets to another. As mentioned already, you should most probably consider the E2e, then, with it's lock-out function.

I've found that burn times for bulbs are somewhat relative to the conditions in which they exist. The burn times they may be listing might be for an "average", or as set up in a lab.

Fortunately, our 6P is still fine and dandy after 4 or 5 years, but my wife usually carries it or has it in her car, so I'm not "abusing" it. ;)

My E2 comes on occasionally in my pocket but only momentarily. Like when I am wearing jeans and start to sit down. It is usually good for a laugh. I tell me wife I am like a firefly attracting a mate. Rarely works though...;)

That said, I would look into the E2e. I have a perfectly good E2, and thus have trouble justifying buying a new E2e. But if I were going to buy a new one, I would go for the E2e.

And if you want a plain ol' E2, you can probably get one cheap used from a flashaholic that needs a fix and just bought an E2e!!

Yep, they're "available", but from what I've seen on the Surefire BB, there's a waiting list/back order from many distributors. I guess this is a good time to get your name on the list and wait. At least you're not waiting a year or more for a custom blade.:)
