With the E2, is there any difference between anodized black and hard anodized green aside from color? Does the "hard" part of hard anodized mean it's significantly more scratch resistant?

I don't know the exact specs but, remember reading about this on a thread over at www.candlepowerforums.com.

The Hard Anodize (type 3?) has a higher RC value (57 I think) so, it won't get scratched by things like car keys. Regular Anodize (type 2?) is around 52 and scuffs up much easier. I may be off on the RC values. I have an ARC LE on a key chain and it is holding up very well with the Hard Anodize finish. The E2 on my belt still looks brand new but, hasn't seen any harsh use either.

Sid is right:). The hard anodized version of the E2, and all SureFire lights for that matter, is CONSIDERABLY more scratch and wear resistant than the other Type II finishes (Gun Metal and Black). Unless you absolutely can't stand the Type III hard anodizing, get the "HA" version. In fact even if you can't stand the look, get it anyway. It's that much better.

Been carrying the HA E2 exclusively since July and I still can't find a scratch on it. THe GM one I had for less than half the time and it was all banged up. Am very impressed with the HA.

There ain't much that can scratch HA.
You can deform the Aluminium below the HA.
That will mark your SureFire.
Usually point impacts are the worst for this. Tarmac is nasty.

In addition to being very resistant to scratches etc,
HA is more non-conductive.
HA is more resistant to many chemicals.
HA knurling will remain 'rough' and non-slip for ages.
