I recently acquired a SureFire EW-12, also known as Jekyll as they were offered at a very tempting price. Considering SF makes excellent flashlights, I expected the knife to be equally good. Here are the specs of the knife as taken from their site:
Length Closed 3.7 inches
Length Open 6.4 inches
Blade Length 3.1 inches (well, this length is calculated from the pivot to the tip, so the actual edge length is ~2.6" - this is a compact knife).
Weight 3.0 ounces
Steel 154CM
Frame 7075 Aluminium and Titanium locking side. Frame lock.
For a compact knife, it holds extremely well, flips super smooth, and has extremely good fit and finish. The knife was smooth out of the box, however, because it is not assisted the flipper cannot open it completely. Their one page manual recommends using the flipper to open it partly, and then the thumb stud to open it completely. The thumb studs are huge, and can be used easily by both hands. It flips open smooth all the way with a flick of a wrist. The blade is tumble-washed, with a swedge. SF has cut grooves into the Aluminium side making it grippy. The jimping is neat, and does not hurt or dig in the thumb. The pocket clip is reasonably tight, and fits well. It has been my EDC for quiet a few weeks now, and I am impressed with its cutting performance. The frame-lock engages fully, and hasn't moved a bit since day one - I doubt it will ever move, but time will tell. The detent notch is outside on the blade and can be seen. Size wise this is similar to BM mini grip (see the comparison photos).
For under $100, I am thoroughly impressed with this knife . For large hands, SF has the EW-11 (Charlie), the bigger brother of Jekyll with ~3.5" blade. I intend to update this review as my experience with this knife grows.
Let the pictures speak for themselves...
