I have a Surefire 6P LED Defender with an R5 LED mod - it has 5 selectable output modes. Anyhow, I've been considering using it for night mapreading if I could obtain a filter for it.

Specifically, this is the model that I'm looking at. The 6P is mentioned as being compatible. However, because my bezel is crenellated, there's a possibility that light could leak out, while I've never handled a surefire filter in person.

Anyone have any experience with those filters, and if they've gotten them to fit on crenellated bezels without any issues?

no the filters go over almost the whole head of the light your good to go!! I have an blue, red and IR filter for my M3

You would probably find the FM34 diffuser much more useful. You could also buy a dedicated mapreading LED that would fit on your keychain, or wherever, for less than a FM35, and not have a lot of bulk added to your 6P. The FM series do make the light noticeably larger.
