I tried the Search and didn't find the answer I was looking for. Does anyone have the P61 lamp in the G2? How fast does the nitrolon heat up with the P61? With the P60? My E2e with the P60 gets warm pretty fast. Thanks.

Frank

I have P61's in most of my Surefires, both G2's and 6-series.

I don't let them run for extended periods, but have had them get pretty warm, but not what I consider hot.

The Nitrolon insulates better than the alloy of the metal bodied versions.

im actually concerned with the heat
when you say it insulates, i hear traps heat
wouldn't a metal body conduct the heat away better?

Yes. But it does come with a Pyrex lens. How long are you running it? A G2 with P61 will last only 30 minutes. Beamshots on the flashlight forums don't show the expected increase in power - for double the lumens the beamshape is identical, only the lumen rating went up at the expense of runtime (batteries.) I LED's this can be acceptable, but I saw no great advantage when the P60 will "illuminate" a mile down the road in darkness.

As another force option, the 120 lumens are better . . .

Whatcha using it for?

The thing with the P61 compared to the P60 they both throw the same but the P61 will put twice as much light on what you are looking at.The G2 does not come with a pyrex lens and the P61 has a 20 min runtime. If you were going to run a P61 in a G2 for more than a few mins at a time I would get a G2Z bezel as it does have a pyrex lens so heat wont be a problem for the lens.

I'm a newbie when it comes to flashlights. I guess I don't really need to double the output. It would be neat but it's not really needed. I'm still trying to figure out a good two light combo for my uses.

Get a G2 for the body, then sang an KL5 LED head for it. You'll have under $100 in a Surefire LED light.

Or, yo ucna check EPRey for a 6-series body, a separate clickie tailcap, and the KL5 head, and if you shop carefully, still be around $100 with an all metal franken-light.

Remember, double the output only means the hotspot is bigger(in this case)..(only slightly) not really noticible. It WILL NOT light something further.
Don't worry about the plastic body, worry about the plastic lens. I changed mine to a UCL from flashlight lens.com
