Surefire KL2? (M3 LED conversion head)

Anyone tried the KL2? It doesn't seem like it's nearly as efficient as the other models.

27 lumens for 90 minutes? Doesn't sound like much -- especially compared to an E2 LOLA - 25 lumens for 150 minutes.

Seems like I've read it's more of a flood than spot light.

What's the appeal / application for it?

Thanks,

Mike

I don't have one nor have I ever used/seen one but I would imagine the usage is for everyday tasks like finding a light switch/ignition/whatever in the dark, etc....tasks that don't require 30000 lumens of light;), ie a battery saver.

I got the M3 and never considered the KL2. I prefer LS LED and am waiting for the KL6.

I got to try out what was to become the KL2 after it was shown at the SHOT Show 2001. The 19 LED bezel for the M3 is a strange thing to do - the M3 is about the most "tactical" of all SureFires - why on earth would one want a 19 LED bezel for it?! I have one and don't use it.

Like others, I'm waiting for the 5W Luxeon bezel code-named the KL6.
This is a bezel more worthy of the M3.

Thanks for the tip -- DEFINITELY going to wait for the KL6.

I might just try a KL1 on my E2e though. Sounds neat.

Michael, I have a KL1 head for my E2e, and I do like it. But I soon switched back to the normal head just because the increased battery life wasn't that important to me. Also because, in my opinion, the more lumens, the better. The original bulb on the E2e isn't so bright that it hurts your eyes in complete darkness, which is the main reason I would get a dimmer bulb.

Personally, I think the KL1 is a poor choice for the E2e. As has been said, it's a big reduction in light output compared to the HOLA.

On the other hand, the KL1 is excellent for the E1. I was never happy with the incandescent lamp in my E1. Too narrow, not enough useful light, dims easily. However, my E1 has gotten a second life from the KL1. For its size, the E1/KL1 combo puts out a lot of light, regulated too. The beam pattern is broad and very useful for nighttime activity, if the activity is within 15 feet of you.

The KL4 will be knockout for the E2e though. ;)

Hey Skyline,
Your set-up is exactly what I have been considering. Could you tell me the overall length of the E1 with the KL1 attached?
Thanks

Mike,
It just dawned on me that I sort of jumped into your thread with my own question unrelated to the subject you started. Sorry!
