Hi all,

I know that there is no real comparision between these two light but its the only reference I have got. I have been looking into one of the Surefire LED lights and was looking for a good reference for how bright they are. I'm not used to working in lumens and I have no clue how the inova is rated anyways. So the question is... How much brighter is the L1 as opposed to the X5???
Sorry for such an off the wall question but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for in searching the net.

Thanks in advance,

MNU

It's been awhile since I've had an L1, but the L1 on high was much like the beam of a KL1 if I remember correctly (if that helps at all). The L1 has a tighter beam than the X5, thus it throws better. The X5 is meant more for flood than throw. The L1 is usually more on the bluish side (at least mine was), but then again the same goes for the X5. The L1 does use only one batt as opposed to the two in the X5 so runtime will be much better on the X5, but the draw of the L1 is that it has the hi/lo capability. That is, pushing on the tailswitch slightly will get you a low powered beam and pushing all the way will get you a high powered one.

As for "lux," you can read about it on the site that DCII mentioned, but the gist of it is that it's measuring the light at a given point (usually at a one meter distance). This is in contrast to the "lumens" ratings which measure total output of light. The lux reading for the L1 is 350 (on high) as opposed to the X5's 97, which gives you an indication of how much more throw the L1 has. Hope that helps.
