I would like to get a surefire light and am leaning towards the rechargables. I like the M2 but dont want to buy lots of batteries!

choices

10x dominator: really cool but impractical for me. also wife would kill me if I bought a $260 flashlight

so 8 or 9?

I guess it depends on how you intend to use it. For around the house, I use Maglites when I am going to use the light for an extended period. For short bursts of light, and for defense if needed I have surefires. Batteries haven't been a significant expense at all, because I don't use the Surefires 'willy nilly', and am not in a job requiring extended use of the light during work, etc.

(I love the M2, but carry my E2 all the time).

It really depends on how often you will use it. If you work in tunnels and need frequent use of a torch, then you may want to get a rechargable model.

My 10X just arrived in the mail this afternoon. It is totally cool. The poor Maglites are hiding in the closet.

If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

bae,

Where did you order your 10x from? I placed an order with Arizona Gun Runners...but nothing yet. :(

onestopknifeshop.com - I ordered it on the 24th, and it showed up this afternoon.

There is really nothing like the 10X for the price. I've got a cradle for it in the car and another in the house, and it's an excellent companion on long trips. HOWEVER...I wish the ergonomics were better. They've maintained the same Surefire design--pushbutton switch at the back of the light, which pretty much requires a screwdriver-like grip (unless you leave it on constantly). My preferred operation is to leave the low watt lamp on most of the time and swith on the big lamp as needed. I think the 10X is too big for a screwdriver grip--I can do it, but it's awkward (for me, anyway). I prefer, for all but the darkest occasions, to use my 9AN/Turbo, as you can switch the big lamp on/off by a slight rotation of the head. So if I know I'm going to be out using the light for an extended time (and I need more than LED brightness), I'll go for the 9AN/T as first choice.

However, for mass quantities of light it's definitely the 10X. Till I get a Maxabeam...
