Surefire M2...Is it worth it?

Yes!

Without a doubt. The M2 is the Ultimate 2 cell 123A flashlight.

I carry it more than my E2. Even while I'm wearing a suit, the M2 is on my belt. Impressive just begins to describe how well the M2 performs.

BTW, AGR have it for $105.
I would pay $200* for the M2.

(*I'm sure that Tim Flanagan would love to sell me an M2 for $200 ;) )

The M2 is a really great light, I love it. I previously had a 6P, and I like the combat style grip on the M2, however I think it would fall out of your hand easily if someone hit it or if you were jacked on adrenalin and shaking. Thats why I reccomend you get a lanyard with it. I recently bought an E2 and got rid of it, nothing compares to the M2. You have choise of light output- It comes with both P60 and P61 lamps, and Its waterproof and basically unbreakable. The only annoying thing about the light is when i press the switch on the back, it makes a squishy sound when i release the button, it bothers the hell out of me. I'm obsessive, dont mind me.
BUY THE LIGHT, YOULL LOVE IT

None of the TailCaps I have make such sounds. I would contact SureFire Customer Service. Offer to send them yours to get it replaced.

The M2, it's P61 and a fresh pair of SF123As make a wonderful team!

I have an E1 in my shaving kit, G2 in my glovebox & Brinkmann LX in my "junk drawer". I just ordered an E2 to carry in my coat pocket (I walk to work and its DARK by 5:00pm here in the shadow of Pikes Peak).

If I had it to do over again, I'd save the $25 and buy a Brinkmann for my glove box. They're great lights for $20.

I just can't see spending that kind of $$$ on an M2, but I do alternate between my Boguszewski Cobra and TnT as an EDC. I guess it's only money...

How much are you going to use it? If you are planning on use it a lot, and you don't mind constantly buying expensive batteries, then go for it.

Just my 2 cents

I was fortunate enough to find the M2 for $89 at botach tactical. That was in April of this year, so I don't know if that deal still stands. For that price, I couldn't say no! I have the 6P as well, and for daily carry, that was more than sufficient. Many of my mini mags have gone to flashlight heaven, but my original Surefire 6P looks brand new, and has only had 1 bulb go bad in about 2-3 years. Thus, I think that just about any Surefire will be more than what the average guy needs, but the M2's design, chunky overengineering, heavy hex bezel, belt clip, awesome pyrex lens and unusual anodizing make it an attractive package indeed. It's definitely a unique flashlight, and you get real tactile satisfaction from using it.

Jefroman is right about burntime, of course. I tend to use my Surefires sparingly. Get yourself a couple of photons (or my current fave, a Petzl Tikka headlamp) for those run-of-the mill flashlight chores, and save the Surefire for the big jobs.

Short answer: IMHO, Get it if you can afford it. The extra engineering makes for a flashlight that is more pleasing, but you are unlikely to need all that extra stuff for normal use.

YEs, to me, I feel my life is worth the $5 in batteries and $100 for the light. I guess that is why I wear a Shueberth M/C Helmet, I feel my noggin is worth the $500 I spent on the helmet. But like it was said in an earlier reply, I use an E1 for mundane tasks and the M-2 for serious stuff. Get a spares carrier, load it with batteries and a bulb, toss it in your kit bag and you are set.

Thanks for the replies lads. The brightest torch I owned is one from Underwater Kinetics, but I don't know the model number. I have probably gone through a dozen Maglites so I figure itr was about time to invest in a quality product.
