Just curious if anybody has a Surefire M4. I'm getting a Surefire M4-CB for Christmas and wondered what everyone thought of them. I plan on using the M4 while on the job as an LEO. I don't plan on using the M4 as my primary light just for special circumstances that call for serious illumination. If anyone has any experience with the M4 please share.

I have a couple of M4's.

The "-CB" version has the Crenelated Bezel:

I like the Shock Isolated Bezel, I like the Hard Anodising, I like the extended runtime of the MN61 350 Lumen / 20 minute Lamp Assembly, I like the LockOut TailCap and I like that it comes with a lanyard.

I was first introduce to high-end flashlight through the SureFire 12PM. The M4 has some great improvements but, I do find the M4 a bit more bezel-end heavy after a while. It's Shock Isolated Bezel with Pyrex lens is heavier than the 12PM's. Therefore I swapped the M4's TailCap for an SW02 Clickie TailCap with it's rubber shroud removed which I find gives the M4 more support and improved balance. Note in the photo above I've tried out the Z48 Clickie TailCap for a whille.

With SW02:

Personally, I prefer the M6 over the M4. The M4 is quite long and while it is light-weight it is not as easy for me to carry in a jacket pocket as the M6 which although heavier is more compact.

I've not used the M4 as a LEO tool as I am not an LEO. They use them on CSI a lot. They produce powerful pure beams from really quite small flashlights. Certiain applications would appear to demand a high-powered light source that you can keep on you.

Size15s, great post and thanks for the pics.

I had a hard time choosing between the M6 and M4. My deciding factor in choosing the M4 was the size of the body. The body of the M6 was too large for my hands and I can't tuck it under my arm or in my belt when I need to use both hands. I was lucky enough to be able to handle an M6 before I made up my mind. I doubt I'll use the M4 that much but it's nice to know that it'll be there in case I ever need it. I chose the crenellated bezel simply because it looks tough and my E2D needed a big brother.

dont have an M4 but do have an M3, have played w/a M4 though, really liked it, wasnt MUCH brighter than my M3 w/the hi output bulb, seems to me it wouldnt be any harder to pack than my M3 though, and its easy to carry (for me anyway) if i wanted a really bright SF i would be tempted by the M4. only con is the batts dont last very long, not w/the hi output bulb anyway. both are cool lites. the M6 is cool too, just lotsa batts to replace pretty often.

why didnt i get one? swapped something for the M3 and got a deal,

I finally got one of these last week. Up til that point a 2 battery model was as high as I had gone. So far I've found it easy to handle and to use. Though my uses don't call for me to pack the light with me and that might make some difference. So far I like what I've seen..........and I've SEEN a lot with this one. The beam is pretty tight and the focus is excellent. I really just wanted a very, VERY powerful light in as small a package as I could get it and I think I've acheived this. Of course the M6 would not have been much bigger, and maybe shorter overall? Is the CB head the same diameter? Finally, is there a head, not turbo, that will fit the M4 that is the same diameter as the body tube?

For what it is worth.......the Surefire lights seem to be ahead of any of the others I've used. I'm talking about fit/finish, beam focus, and ease of use.

Yes, the M6 is shorter than the M4. See this photo

The crenelated bezel version the same as the scalloped version (the lens retaining rings are the difference...

The KL6 LED Bezel will fit and function on the M4 body. There is no non-TurboHead bezel for the M4 (other than the KL6).
