Does anyone have any information (power, price, release date, etc) about a SureFire M8 flashlight? www.ndsproducts.com mentions that an M8 is "coming soon", but when is "soon"?

I'm looking into getting an M6, but wondering if I should wait for an M8.

Thanks!

Holy Moly...an M8? I bet that'll top the $400-$500 pricepoint, and no flashlight is worth that much. And I still think Surefire is on a short path to pricing themselves out of existance...

I contacted NDS and they said no information is yet available on the M8. I also emailed SureFire, but no reply yet. Since the M6 MSRP is $449, I imagine the M8 would be $500+. Pricey to say the least.

However, since I'm impatient

, I ordered an M6 from BrightGuy for $270 (love this store!). I'm still in shock from paying that much for a flashlight.

Note that www.botach.com and www.policetactical.com also have the M6 for $270. Yeah, the 12PM/ZM costs half as much, but I like the M6's longer run time, better durability, and cooooool looks.

I think I have a flashlight addition.

My M3 with the 225 lumen lamp is painfully bright. 500 lumens must be ungodly. How much brighter can they get?

Having just taken delivery of my SureFire M6 I can state that 500 lumens is VERY bright. I am thinking of entering it into the Lightsaber v Excaliber thread - neither has a chance against this.

I wonder how many lumens the M8 will have and if they will provide a nuclear power adaptor for it to have >60 mins run time!

I wouldnt worry about power for the 60 minute run time... it would have a meltdown before then.... maybe one of the M8's new features is a cooling fan

A cooling fan would probably be too bulky. However, if they integrated Peltier coolers into the bezel and barrel, I bet they could really pump a lot of current and produce serious light. That would be COOL (literally!).

When SureFire first updated their website, I talked with them in their forum (now gone) & the M8 was going to be (at that stage atleast) the DL123A equivalent of the new M2000 rechargeable. I assume it'll have two rows of four batteries side by side. SureFire said that 500+ Lumens is about as much as technology allowed without melting the components etc (They said increasing the bulk of the flashlight would help reduce the heat, but SureFire wasn't into making big bulky flashlights).

I got the impression that SureFire was testing the waters with the M3, and taking a leap with the M6. I suppose it's all sales related. If there's demand (ie everybody emails them lots) maybe they'll make an M8. I hope they make the M2000 atleast!

I've been in San Marino (Italy), and they're really into BB Guns, and associated firearms selling them to anybody; even kids (which I'm against). I was very surprised to see a BB machinegun with a SureFire 9P and lasersight (not SureFire). They also had a 12ZM for £250 which was way overpriced.

I don't know how long it's been back up but the SF forum is open for business again.

Thanks for the info on the SF forum.
I ain't gonna leave BladeForums though...

I do have other interests than flashlighs and batteries (!)

By the way, I'm looking for a set of atleast 6 Steak knieves with WOODEN handles. They have to be classy and sharp, and last forever. My Dad has a set that's 25 years old, but ones lost. Hopefully I can get him a new set for Christmas...

I recieved an email from Paul Kim, the
New Product Development Manager at SureFire, and here's what he wrote:

"E1 will be available within few weeks.
M2000 w/ Ni-cad Battery will be available around November.
M8 is on hold and may not go production... Sorry."

I want an M2000!!!!

Cool! Thanks for the update. I can't wait to get an E1. I wonder how bulky the M2000 will be...and how much it'll cost. $500+? Is the M1000 rechargeable fixed at 500 lumens, then?

Actually, I've come to realize that a 6P/P61 is generally more useful than an M6. The M6 is a remarkably small package that packs a serious wallop, but I'd still have to carry it in my bag. On the other hand, I can keep my 6P/P61 on me all the time in a nylon belt holster, even in a corporate environment. Works great for lighting up those dark alleys and corners walking home at night.

For computer renderings of the SureFire M1000 & M2000, go to the SureFire site run by Paul Kim - www.pk-engineering.com
He has lots of stuff that never got built, and some stuff that's in the works.

The M2000 looks like a flashlight out of a SciFi movie - really kewl.
