Good Day,

So, first and foremost, I love a well made piece of gear.

Which means that I have been thinking of buying an M2.

I am particularly interested in the shock resistance, and the lockout tail cap, and the other features are very cool.

Can anyone give me any good reason not to by the M2, other than spending that much?

Is the Clip removeable?

How would you compare the E2 and M2, pros and cons? Does anyone have a comparison image?

And in a three way comparison with the G2, what would it's strengths be? Cost?

Is anyone familiar with the BeamShaper?

And what is up with the Turbo Conversion Kit?

What sort of performance does the rechargeable system give?

Oh yeah, anything else I should consider?

E2 versus M2 is easy. The E2's sole advantage is the form factor. The M2 has advantages in everything else.

To elaborate on some of the advantages of the M-2:

- Reported to have incredible shock resistance
- Better suited for use in conjunction with a handgun
- 120 lumen option (P61 bulb)
- Better water resistance
- Lockout tailcap

Note that the E2e (the E2 Elite) closes the gap on some of these advantages: it has a lockout tailcap and good water resistance. There's been a long-rumored 100 lumen bulb option for the E2, but it's still not here. With these modifications, the E2 closes the gap on the M2, but the incredible shock resistance and suitability for the Rogers technique will make the M2 my dedicated handgun light.

The M2 has always been too big for me for most carry situations. Even with a jacket, I wasn't particularly thrilled about carrying it. The E2 is my everyday carry and worklight, period. The M-2 is used when one of the following conditions applies: handgun, water, shock.

Of course my fellow SureFire Forumite Joe has hit all the main differences between the two. I also have both, and I prefer the E2 better as well because of the smaller size. If I was you I would wait until January and go with an E2e and get pretty much the best of both worlds. The E2e, as Joe has noted, will be sans the shock resistance and for now anyway, the high-power lamp. But besides that, the E2e is a mini M2.

The clip on the M2 and the soon to be released E2e are not only removable, but interchangeable to boot.

I have a G2 and IMO it is not in the same class as the M2 and E2(e). The one I have I keep in the glovebox of the car. When it gets cold, the Nitrolon of the G2 does not change temperature nearly as drastically as metal. Anyone who has handled a Maglite in the winter in the Midwest knows what I speak of. The G2 is not even as waterproof as the current E2, it has no lockout tailcap and actually activates the easiest of any SureFire I have (a bad thing because it is more likely to turn on when not needed and possibly drain the batteries), and it has no clip. The G2 is the perfect glovebox light, but IMO not the light for every day and every use like the E2/E2e/M2 could be.

Another thing to consider is that the E2(e) offers a different beam pattern (wider) and yields 60 lumens as opposed to the normal 65 lumens that the standard M2 and G2 lamp puts out. But the P60 of the M2 and G2 (and all other non-Executive 6V SureFires) lasts only for about 60 minutes, while the E2 drains its batteries after 75 minutes.
Sure the E2 is not as bright, but it is almost as bright for 15 minutes longer.

I have had the same quandry myself. Joe pretty much summed it up between the differences. I opted to get the M2 and wait to buy the E2e when they come out.

For me I had to have the shock resistance and the waterproofness. It remains to be seen how this light fairs as my EDC. I plan on clipping it to my belt.

The E2e also looks bigger than the E2 so I'm not sure that it's going to be as convenient as the E2 to carry. I'll compare both later.

If your are like me, You will end up getting the M2 becuase it's the better light and built tough.

Actually, I've just started carrying a G2 as an EDC and even though I've only had it for a few days, it is a great carry. It is light, I hardly notice it in a cargo pocket and I keep the tailcap 2 rotations away from turning on the light. Now, it may be inexperience with torches but I love this light!

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your responses.

Most likely I will end up getting both a M2 and an E2e.

And I may even go for a G2 at some time, maybe they will make it waterproof one day.
