G'day all

I've been looking at getting a Surefire since first finding out about them (courtesy of this board and all you surefire owners :) ) but since i'm living in Australia there are a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Surefires (if you can find them in Oz) are horrendously expensive (6p AUS$193.00 is the cheapest i've found) and the batteries would send me broke overnight (AUS$10.00 each or more).

after discovering these facts and picking myself up off the floor  I thought that the best solution would be a LED Surefire with rechargeable batteries (light lasts longer and no buying pricey batteries every week).

After looking at the Surefire website I am considering the following combo: 6P + KL3 + KR2-BK

This is still over AUS$500 worth thru anyone who deals with surefires down here. I have considered getting it online but shipping charges and possible loss in transit tend to dissuade me.

Can anyone suggest a better combo that will give me a cheap(ish) to run high power (prefferably) LED Surefire?

And can anyone tell me if the recharger kit is international voltage capable if I do end up ordering via the web?

TIA Guys.

If I were you I would look into the G2 Nitrolian (sp?). From what I understand, the 6p is kinda being phased out. The G2 has all the same features of the 6p (except for the body material being different) but the flashlight is about half the price (about $30 American). Also, I am not trying to sound like a smartass here but, you know that you don’t have to use surefire batteries right? I got a bunch of 3v Toshiba lithium batteries that work fine in my Z3 and G2 (I bought 20 of them for $20 USD—I don’t know what that works out to for AUS). I know that my answer is a bit off your original topic but I just wanted to let you know of a cheaper option that you may not have been aware of. Good luck!

I agree with anewguy on the G2. That's definitly more cost effient solution. I'm not really into the 6P either. The KL3 is WAY bulky. I got one for collection only, not gonna use it. This is a huge combo anyway. I personally do prefer the E1e/KL1 combo.

If you head over to CPF ( www.candlepowerforums.com ) people are using a PILA rechargeable battery in an L4 with good results. I suggest you ask CPF members for advice. Personally, I think the G2R+KL3 is a large flashlight with low output.
If you would like a photo of it, please email me size15s@ntlworld.com

Reaaallly. That sounds pretty sweet. they're just getting the same output as if it were on the e1e right? my understanding is it provides the same power as one 123 in the space of two. is that right?

No, you'll get full power lighting for about 50 min if I recall correctly. The electronics in the L4 boost the voltage. The only drawback is the initial cost: a couple pilas and the charger run about $75. Also the pilas wont work with the 6v incandescents. Run a search at CPF for more details :)

Please note that the above combo will, at the maximum, provide you with only appx. 20 lumens (KL3).

It is not, by far, a "high-power" LED setup.

why not buy your surefire online? There are a ton of places to get them. My friend has access to a surefire distributor, he would be happy to mail you a ton of batteries.

G'day All

Well after reading a fair bit of candlepower forums and replies here I will probably ditch the idea of the LED head and just stick with a xenon bulb, haven't decided which one yet but am still leaning toward the 6p.

mikempg4: Unfortunately (from a ordering point of view) i'm living in australia, most of the US based online sites that deal with surefire's have a fairly high international shipping cost which bumps the price up fairly substancially after converting to AUS$'s. But I'm still considering it...... thanks for the offer re batteries, I'll see how I go and I might get back to you..

Thanks Guys
