Hello,
I just started making knives here recently and am looking to put a satin finish on my knives. I decided to try scotch brite belts, but I can't seem to find the fine grit belts anywhere. I've checked tru-grit, jantz, combat abrasives, and even Amazon. They all have surface conditioning belts, but they jump straight from medium (120-220 grit) to very fine (400-600 grit) Is there somewhere I can find fine grit belts, or have they quit making them completely?
Thanks

If you're looking at 3M belts specifically, I think they only come in: Coarse, Medium, Very fine, and Super fine. I doubt going from their Medium to Very Fine is too big a jump.

Trugrit should have them. If they do not give an actual phone call to Pops abrasives, they have a lot in stock that isn't on their site.

That being said, if you can use cork belts, I would suggest them over Scotch-Brite. They last longer and give a smoother more "machined" or "satin" look, while spitting less crap at you.

They do need a break in, but 5 minutes of time is worth a year+ of knives.

I found a company that makes their own surface conditioning belts, appears to perform pretty similar to the Scotch-Brite ones. Sparky Abrasives. I've used their coarse and fine belts on my 2x48 Kalamazoo, no issues.

I use a 400 grit cork belt just before using a super fine scotchbrite belt for satin finish. Works for me. Larry

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up ordering a couple cork belts to try out, and a finer grit surface conditioning belt.

i get mine from supergrit
hot tip when you think you have used the belt all up load them with buffing compound that comes close to the grit level of the belt. for me the blue belt and blac/grey compound is a greata combo
