Has anyone ever tried to make a surface grinder out of a radial arm saw?? I know it wouldn't be the best, but when you don't have $1,000 layin around, it just might do the trick with a little staunchin up and ingenuity. Take care! Michael

That is a bad idea! Use precision ground D-2 or A-2, until you can afford to buy or lease a surface grinder. Get a piece of 9" X 12" granite, use a spray adhesive and some wet and dry sandpaper.

Now that we know that you have come to you senses: Go on the hunt, I found a tool makers serface grinder in a basket for $500. I put it together, used it to clean the rust off the magnetic chuck (included) and it's wonderful!! Now, I challenge you to go beat that deal, turn over the rocks and you will. Good hunting!

My surface grinder,( and I'm not making folders)is a dual shaft 3/4 hp. motor with a disc on each end, an adjustable table, and a foot switch. hold the work flat against the disc, step on switch. Total cost $30. It,s cheap but inexpensive.

l6, in the new knives illustrated, it has a story about a maker, but he altered his surface grinder for a belt. and a good surface grinder is way over a $1000.

Michael,
I figured everyone else pretty much told you not to do it, so i won't.
I was singing the song 'And another one down, and another one down, another one bites the dust."
Bad idea. At least you are thinking.
