Has anyone attempted to or successfully built a diy surface grinder attachment to your 2x72? I have a Broadbeck 2x72 and they offer a surface grinder attachment but it's over a grand and out of my reach. Was pondering on what it would take to build something.

I want to thank Travis Wuertz for this design. I could never afford his, but I did a fairly good job making my own I think. It actually looks and works better better than I had even planned! And being that it cost me less than $250 to build really is something! Took me a couple weeks to finish...

I started building a surface grinding attachment and thought I would document my progress as I go along. This build is likely going to take a little while, as I have not really made a plan or ordered any components other than the linear rail. My first step was to make the chuck. I am not sure...

If you have a milling machine, I think it's very doable. Without one, you have to get creative when it comes to the magnetic chuck. There is a lot of good information in the thread Josh linked to, but it takes quite a while to read. In case you have not seen it, here is a link to a video by J. Keeton J.
