Surface grinder belt conversion - wavy finish

I recently converted my old Delta Toolmaker from stones to belts and I'm happy with how it turned out. Tracks perfect and takes material off quickly. The problem is it leaves a slightly rough and wavy finish. Any tips on fixing this? I'm pretty new to surface grinders. Can you dress a 90 duro serrated rubber wheel? I've read something about the spindle bearing preload going bad. How would I know if that's it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Serrated rubber wheel is issue. Best finish will be aluminum wheel. A hard smooth rubber wheel would be better than serrated
that makes sense but i still would have thought the serrated wheel would leave a slightly better finish. now on to figuring out where i can get a 6"x1" aluminum wheel.
Thanks!

Smooth wheels always give a better finish. Serrated grinds faster. Would also check how true your current wheel is

You need a smooth wheel and make sure you check run out on it after it's mounted. I've found contact wheels are a pain to grind true /dress. I get a much better finish with a metal wheel myself

I've just started looking for one tonight. I also checked the runout on my current wheel -about four hundredths. So it might be the wheel.

Glue some piece of sandpaper to chuck , run grinder without belt and clean that run out...........you can grind whole serration if you want
something like this. This is drive wheel from other grinder and have some radius on it for better tracking .I will use it temporary on my surface grinder so I need it flat ....now it is FLAT and no run out :) Not on picture, picture is before i start to grind on it....

You want a 90 Durometer smooth contact wheel. The rubber contact wheels from Reeder are very true. I am sure Greg will make one to fit your needs. I know he makes a 4" surface grinder wheel.

I'm gonna do this first thing in the morning. Thanks for the idea!

And new belt ! Maybe 100 - 120 ceramic grit .Maybe even more fine AO belt in 400 or 800 grit is better if you have one ?
Edit....... no belt ,I mean sandpaper .I forget for moment what you want to do

On the off-chance you are set up for variable speed, bear in mind that rubber wheels get bigger when spun faster and smaller when run slower. It's obvious with hindsight and not difficult to work around, but can make things unnecessarily interesting if you are not expecting it. Do not ask how I know this.
