I was just out buying a Dewar and the folks had a used surface grinder for sale and thought I'd pass this on:
Location: Libertyville, Illinois (NE corner of state)
Surface grinder is a Brown and Sharpe No. 2. It is driven by the old wide leather belt drive. It appeared to be a 5x12" electromagnetic chuck, which still had excellent hold. The table and head seem very tight, still. The machine had a 1/2" wheel on it. The table was auto feed, so it can be left running unattended. Sits on its own cast iron cabinet. Three phase 220V motor. Buy/build yer own converter. Everything seemed operative and in good working order. The folks are asking $400 for it, which seems like a reasonable price. They wish to sell it w/o having to ship and have to crate, etc, so if you have a trailer and the inclination this may be a good buy on one of the classic "built like a brick outhouse" surface grinders.
