Would anyone be willing to surface grind a knife blank for me? I would of course be willing to pay for it as long as the price is reasonable. It's a piece of un-heat treated .41" thick 5160 approximately 12.6" long and .76" at the widest point and i need it ground down to .25". My email is Jared@caliberis.com.

.160:eek: that's a lot of grinding it should be milled close or some similar fast way and then surface ground to size, that may blow your pricing up a bit..

might have better luck asking someone to press/hammer it down to .300 and then grind it down to .250

I'd be willing if I had the tools here...it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

If all else fails, I've got some .280" 5160 that I can surface grind down to .250" and send your way.

I'm sorry, I have never used a surface grinder so I didnt know what kinda of limitations they have, ok then so is there anyone that can mill/press/whatever this piece down to .25? and thanks Dan but I could probably get .25" if i needed too but this was a piece of scrap that i was gonna throw away but then saw a knife in it so i already have it ground to shape and everything but i'd like it to be a wee bit thinner.

It would be a lot of work to do it.
Why not save for when you're forging, or use it as guards, etc., and go get a new piece at the size you want?

Jees! Send it to me and I will mill it and surface grind it for you. PM me for my address.
