I have a large bowie, that is going to be in a presentation wooden box for the forseeable future. How can I keep the steel and brass guard shiny over time?
Thanks

The brass will oxidize unless you can keep Oxygen from getting to it. While Oils and wax will do this for awhile, they also oxidize and when they do the brass will follow. A near perfectly clear epoxy could be applied that will prevent any oxygen reaching the surface of a knife in a case, and some artist use these resins for bonding glass together or protecting metals such as brass, but I do not have a brand name to recommend, I just know that they exist. Research and you will find.

Renaissance Wax will do the trick. Contrary to the above comment, you will not run into any sort of oxidation to the brass components using it. The wax will effectively protect the entire knife if applied well.

I've coated it with renaissance wax and closed the box up. I will check it in a week or two to see if I have applied it properly. Thanks very much.
