I have a shelf queen that has built up a few spots of surface rust on the factory edge. Normally I would just hit it with a stone or piece of sandpaper, but I want to keep that factory edge as new as possible without altering it. Tried scrubbing with a cloth and oil but it's still there. What is the best way to remove it without affecting the factory edge?

Thanks.

Strop has worked for me and does very little to the finish otherwise unless you really over do it. If you don't have a strop, the rough side of a leather belt or maybe some jeans that are a bit more coarse than the cloth you tried might even work

Now that we have averted disaster here, I thought I would go OT and add that I recently found a few rust spots on a new EDC made of D2 steel. In my case, the rust came off with a little rubbing and some Break-Free. I wouldn't have thought of stropping it with leather because the blade is coated down to the bevel.

place edge flush on a hard surface, to prevent cutting/slicig.
work edge and flat of the blade with NeverDull wadding.
NeverDull also works great on bolsters, and all metal handles.
