I was wondering if anyone here has experience with knives given surface treatments like those mentioned in the subject line: IonBond, Nitrocarburizing (Tennifer, Melonite, etc.), and others. It seems like a fairly easy way to provide a lot of corrosion resistance to an otherwise vulnerable steel, but I'm more curious about how it influences the edge, edge retention, and the ability to touch up and hone an edge. Is this knowledge out there anywhere?

I really like the TiNi surface coating that SOG uses on its blades. It is tough as nails and really improves the blade. It doesn't affect the edge at all as the bevel is ground after the coating is applied.
