Today I had occasion to cut a piece of 2 inch diameter quarter inch thick ,nylon thread reinforced vynil hose with the Surge blade. It was 20 degrees and that stuff was hard and stiff.

I finally got thru enough to get the blade inside the hose and bury the point in the oppsite side and lever the blade thru the hose pulling aganist the lock. I fully expected the lock to fail as I was putting a great deal of pressure aganist it in a direction it was not designed to work in.

It held up with no problem. I was very impressed with the lock strength.I normally don't do such things with a good tool , but had it failed the only thing it could do was bang my nuckles aganist the pipe.

I came away with new respect for the Leatherman Surge. I have used it for a couple of months at work and find it a great tool. :)

Ya a man after my own heart. I use my surge EVERY day at work.(cement truck driver) Today cut a frozen webstrap that was 4 inches accross and 1/4 inch thick It was used to lift 3 ton cement blocks. Cut 1 inch hosing to replace the one on my mixer, and used the pliers to stab at dried concrete on my chutes. I never baby my leathermans, and love the locks on the new surge, but I still cant dump my PST and Old wave:D

It's always interesting to see what people do with their multi's. I try to follow my own advice and always choose the correct tool for the job, but it's nice to read about what extremes you can go to in a pinch.;)

Ya know I have been a member here for years.(look at the join date) But rarely post. I love my knives but it always make me cringe when I see people that post pics of there EDC Like the sebbies, striders and other high end with NO scratches on them.

I carry and use what I have. Yes I abuse knives, but have never broken a tip using it as a driver. But come on guys buy the dang things and use the.

Perfect example is people bashing CS here. I have abused them to the max. And only returned one. It was a 4 inch voyager that got "lost" in a load of concrete (40,000 lbs of concrete) and was driven while turning for 40 miles. It was found later by the flooring guy and hosed off. I broke only the clip, and it did look really sandblasted!! Sent it back to CS and they replaced it.

Leatherman is also excellent on the Coustomer service and I will most certainly use the tools for the intended purpose, and other purposes also!!!:p
