Surge worth $80?

I must admit I probably don't use multi-tools as much who are on these forums. When I do use them it's crucial they are of high quality. I've been carrying a Swiss tool RS and Leatherman xti. Never being a fan of Leatherman (their tools have snapped on me a couple times) I was extremely impressed with the xti. So when I saw a Surge for supposedly $59.99 at Target when the lowest price I've ever seen was around $80 on discount Leatherman search engines I didnt pass up the chance. It turns out I didn't notice they put it on the wrong shelf and it was actually $80. Not wanting to cause a scene in line I just paid the extra $20. Got it home and noticed lock up isnt all that great. When trying to close the plier head it has to be in a certain position to close all the way, and regardless, the plier head hits the bit which is already scraped. Also it seems a little loose, a lot of rattle unlike the xti and especially the swiss tool. I plan on keeping it but is there anyone out there that has had to put this tool through extremes and wheather or not its failed in any way? Any comments would be appreciated. Sorry I thought I was under multi-tool.

I haven't got to use mine much, so I can't really give you a positive yes or no (but leaning more to the yes). What I can tell you is that they mispriced the rack of surges at my local target, it still rang up as $80 but when they found out I wasn't going to buy it at that price the lady was nice enough to give it to me for the $60 it was advertised. :D

according to this reviewer- http://multitool.org/content/view/35/67/

Other than that, the Surge follows the Wave’s design pretty well, with the one handed opening plain and serrated blades. The liner locks snap confidently into place and the pliers are everything you have come to expect from Leatherman. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tool to any heavy user or large handed individual, although this one is definitely on the avoid list for someone who need a light use, handy or occasional use tool. This is a serious tool for serious users.
if you are in the heavy user or big handed group I'd say yes but I think that the surge has also been offered as part of a cheap set lately. still $80 I think is about right for retail

Same here. Love my Surge. EDC it. All tools functional, even the micro-screwdriver for my glasses. I'd already expected some scraping of the inner tools due to the plier head position when closing, but so far, no wobble, no lock-up problems.

My only complaint, (more like a wish) is that they would make the clip-point blade/knife out of 154CM steel. That would have made this sweet.

Got mine brand new for $55.00 plus shipping on ebay from a seller who was just starting out and I guess wanted to build a good rep. hehe. great deal, I think.

I had one briefly, but traded it for a Swisstool. I found it too heavy and bulky for edc and (no offense to Surge lovers) a little gimmicky. I now carry either a Swisstool or Spirit.
