Well, I'm sitting in a hospital bed with one of the fancy assless gowns. Nothing too major, just hernia surgery in 45 minutes.

The biggest fear I have? Being away from the shop too long. The second biggest fear? Dying from complications.

Why is it that the worse possibility is the second one on my mind? Anyone else the same?

I went though this surgery twice ( one on each side ) about 25 years ago.
The first one was a rough road, the second surgery eight weeks later went much better.
I hope You are feeling better with every hour.
Your body will let You know what You can and and can't do, probably no jumping jacks.
Use Your down time wisely but take a little time to relax and heal correctly.

Because three people have died from hernia surgery complications and we're afraid that we'll be the next; the 0.0001% of unlucky surgery patients.

But hey, of all the ways to go - dying while anesthetized - not too bad.

I have only been anesthetized once, when I was nine, and I was flipping shit - I couldn't control myself. Eventually they just sedated me and forced the mask on me and I'm alive today.

Good luck, best of wishes.

So far so good. I got out of the hospital around noon, and after a short shamble around the health food store while we waited for my prescriptions to get filled, got home and have been doing about as I expected. As long as I'm cautious about not using my stomach muscles for anything it's not too bad. I've found that sharpening knives doesn't appear to bother my stomach.

Game on....
