I've been using a surgishaarp belt to strop my blades after sharpening. I use 6 micron diamond lapping compound with the fuzzy side out.

I'm having trouble with the used compound "glazing" the surface. It makes the belt very much less effective.

What could a guy do to get it closer to new again? The belts are expensive, and I'd rather not buy one every time it gets clogged up and glazed over with used compound.

Thanks!

A crepe sanding block may help; if you're not familiar it's used to clear up regular belts when they'er clogged.

I try a lil mineral oil, I use it on my regular strops to clean it when they get loaded

I have this trouble too, and the cleaning block helps some. Even glazed and streaked, it still seems to do its job, though.

A paper towel with a little wd40 is what I use. And I find regular white compound works better as far as loading up the leather goes.

I've got orange6 micron, yellow 3 micron, and white 1 micron paste for this task. So far I've only used the orange on my belt. The yellow and white are for hand stropping on cardboard or leather. I'll be sure to try all of these cool ideas! They seem pretty economical also.
