its not really a find sence there rather commen but i baught a swiss k31 and a 1948 m44 mosin nagant at a gunshow yesterday. both were under $100 and both were in great condition. for another $35 i got 440 rounds of nagant 7.62x54r still in the spam can. the m44 is unissued and never refinished.

while the k31 has been issued and has GREAT metal BUT the woods finish is kinda on the rough side because its been issued. the cool thing is that with the swiss a soldier stayed with the rifle though out its life and when the soldier got out for what ever reasion his name and number was put on a tag and put under the butt plate, i know who used my k31.

It would be kinda cool to look up the soldier and/or his relatives to add to it's history.

well, that 1052 is the postal mailing address to le mount. its a ski resort village in the swiss alps now. you can only imageing what that place looked like post ww2.

Congrats on the purchase, I have a Mosin myself and really like it, and think Mausers are practically impossible to beat. I have a thing for old military rifles, they are hard to beak especially if you consider cost. I have never heard of the Swiss gun though, could you elaborate a bit more about its history/combat use?

this site might help you out. if my understanding is correct each rifle was issued to a particular soldier and stayed with that soldier through out his service. they took the rifles home, just incase something should arise. to my knowlege they were never used in combat.

if you like mausers you would probably like the swedish mausers. there considered the best even though there small ringed. the germans made them undercontract for a while before the swedes started making there own. there so well built that theres no short cuts taken in the production and even while the germans were building them the steel was imported from sweden because the metal was so much better than the german steel.
