So I picked up a dirt cheap double bit off the Bay a couple weeks ago. It was sold as "long past its prime and I doubt it will ever see wood again but it's a very cool decorative item." What can I say I'm a sucker for a cheap ugly duckling.

After an overnight vinegar soak what did I find? It's a Mann KnotKlipper Warranted! It's very badly pitted, certainly not worth much as a collectible, but it might make a nice companion for 'Charo' the Woodslasher, who is in similar condition.

Man! That was up there for a while. Good pull, Nick. That thing gives Charo a run for her money! Please keep us updated with upcoming eye candy.

you'd be surprised, if you start working the crud off and sharpen it , you could have a fine double.
the rust does a lot to thin the bit down for you.

the old timers used to let there blade tools rust over the winter just for this prupose

Yeah, I like the idea of having a whole string of ugly ducklings! I polished up Charo's bit last week. I forget if I posted photos or not. More to come!

After receiving a bluegrass that was a complete disaster, and soaking it for a few nights whole scrubbing and flipping in the afternoons, I have come to realise that just about anything is possible...

I like it.

The only time I've had a problem (it was on a bluegrass in fact) was the rust turned out to be pitting & was near the bit.

Sweet! Can't wait to see it on a handle and busting wood. Goes to show you never know you're gonna get sometimes.

I have several like that. they were that rusty then I cleaned them to that condition, and like yours, sitting there waiting for the real work to begin.
