I was going through the closet in the family room where I used to keep my guns and knives before I converted one bedroom into my den / office / junk catcher room, and found this one I forgot I even had, an early black micarta Kalinga, in the hard box. (box is pretty rough, bad hinge), but knife looks unused. The only markings on it are:

Buck
Kalinga
USA

Nice score John! I wish I could find something like that in my closet. All I'll find are clothes that don't fit and old shoes:D

If anyone has an idea of how old it is, and it`s worth, I would appreciate it. I plan on getting rid of it since I prefer the folders. I don`t even remember when or where I got this one, it`s hell getting old!

That looks really nice. The last time I saw one of those I didn't think the blade looked like that, but it was a while ago.

Hi Stomper -

There are a few on the bay -

One says the knife was made in 1995, and it is selling for just under $200 with buy it now.

There is another one with Harry Beckwith's name inscribed on it - it is being sold by Mr. Beckwith's wife - google the Harry Beckwith Incident . She is asking $100 for her copy.

Nice knife, and a neat closet find!

best regards -

This is what they said on the Buck Forum.

JK, Your Kalinga is easy to date from the box and guard . Glad you could show a photo of the box . Your model was mfg. with that stamp and box from 1974-81 . The 1973 models had burgundy micarta handles(more rare) and prior models 1970-72 though black micarta was used the stamp was inverted . So, I'm mostly certain yours is from these years . DM

Wow! Nice find John! I never seem to find this kind of stuff in my closets either! I'd love to have that baby but, you know how it is with money constraints. I have no doubt that you will have no problem getting rid of it though. Later!

I'm glad to see that the ol' Buck finally came out of the closet. Very cool blade.

It is most definately before 1995. DM was pretty much spot on!
If you do a search for online auctions, the "newer" wood handled ones sell for roughly 140-150 ish. (Ballpark) and the Micarta version (Older) is anywhere from $150-$200.00+
Being the case is a tad rough on yours, I would say keep it under 200. ;) I am by no means an expert, but a micarta one did sell without the box for $180.00. So I guess it depends on the day and listing.

BTW, You have some gorgeous knives and axes here Stomper. I love to drop by and see whats available and dream. :D

Thanks for the info on prices, now I know what to ask for it.
