So i just got a byrd cara cara 2, a poor mans endura. I know there is alot of hype and recommendation about the endura on here and i wanted to try something like it out but didnt want to spend the 60$ right now. So i bought a cara cara 2 in frn for 20$ from amazon. Man am i impressed, its so awesome especially for 20$.

If this is what a 20$ knife quality is like i cant wait to see what the quality of an endura would be or even something higher up then that later on.

Ya spyderco makes some very nice quality knives. You should check out the tenacious next, just a little bit more money, and a lot more quality. You wont be disappointed. I need to warn you though, It will never stop. Every benchmark price seems like to much money until you pass it, and then go on to the next one...$20-40, $75, $100+ and soon enough your dreaming of sebenza's and hinderers. It never stops.

I REALY want a Byrd Crossbill. I'd rather the Spyderco version, but also low on funds. Maybe I'll try it out.

This is my starter spyderco, my gateway spyderco lol. Its awsome. Cant wait to see what Spyderco will have for me next, going to give this a few weeks pocket time before i decide to move up though, its only fair.

Spyderco knives are great. The Endura still stands as one of my favorite EDC blades I've ever owned.

Maybe ill get a pacific salt in the summer to EDC while im fishing (only freshwater but still its a justification). Thats an endura with different steel isnt it?

I had the all aluminum version, and I loved that damn knife. I used it for everything last summer and I was fishing and it was a good day, until my lure was stuck in the island in the middle of the pond.. I stripped down, grabbed my knife and across the pond I swam. Retrieved my lure and on the way back, I guess the knife slipped out of my pocket. I couldn't find it anywhere.. :/ Byrd, even though made in china, are damn great knives for the few bucks you burst on them! I went to the shop here again and they said they dropped the distributor who sells them Byrd knives... I almost cried in a figurative way! I have a few Benchmades, but I am working on getting me one or two Spydercos.

I think the benchmade lock is cool, even though i dont have one or ever had one i would like to get one one day.

I had the Endura 4 frn and loved it. Super strong, super sharp...I got mine as a gift, so I didn't pay for it but I would not hesitate to get the endera.... Worth every penny.

I was also supprised by a $20 knife a couple of years ago. A SAK Alox Cadet.

This is exactly how I got into spyderco! Exact same knife, it sold me on spyderco and now I have around a dozen in different blade steels and handle materials. My cara-cara had wicked edge geometry and it is still one of the best slicers I own for stuff like thick cardboard. Just wait until you dive into a ZDP-189 endura or delica...... then the fun starts! One word of advice, just start out with what you want, because you will eventually spend $150-$200 on what you want. The journey is fun though, I bought an assorted number of FRN handled models and lower end stuff (like the tenacious) and they are all amazing blades, but I never felt satisfied until I got a titanium framelock Sage 2 and A ZDP-189 caly 3.

You don't really need H-1 for water(especially fresh water). You can use a knife with regular blade steel such as VG-10 and not worry about rust as long as you wipe it down and dry it out like you would with any knife.
I've heard the H-1 doesn't hold a very great edge.
However, the Pacific Salt is a sweet knife so you should pick one up anyways. :D

The Cara Cara(especially the 2 with FFG blade) is an excellent knife. It's amazing for the price. Fit and finish is extremely well done, good materials for price, and quality is great. I actually prefer it over the Endura, because I love the choil but would prefer the VG-10 steel. If they added a Choil to the Endura I would be good to go.

I use a tuff cloth on my knives every once in a while because its pretty damp sometimes for weeks at a time where i live too.

the original Byrd Cara Cara G10 has been my EDC for a few years.....I use the finger choil on it all the time to "choke up" on it for good control....great knife.....I own several other Byrd and Spyderco models but I always drift back to the Cara Cara

As was I . . . a Browning Ice Storm. That knife and a few others proves to me that high quality knives can be manufactured and sold for ridiculously low prices.
