I think of Mcustas like holy grails. Like a work of art you carry in your pocket. But I think of Korian as cheap material. Plus I thought it was slippery and not good from a practical standpoint.

What gives?

I am not sure, but I have had many mcusta knives and have liked all of them, although all of them were damascus except for one.

I wouldn't consider Mcustas to be grail-like knives. Nice, sure, but not grails.

I think you mean Corian, as in DuPont Corian.

I really like Mcusta also, and I agree that it seems an odd choice.

Some interesting things can be done with Corian, so it may depend on how they use it.
I just watched a Youtube review of a Mcusta Corian Basic Folder, and the Corian used was just basic white. I'd have to agree my first reaction is that it makes the Mcusta look kinda cheap.
Certainly very different than their normal choice of handle material up to now.

Possibly they are just experimenting with basic Corian before doing something more interesting or colorful with it.

I know Corian has been used on kitchen knives a lot, and I would guess it makes a pretty good, durable handle material.

+1
They are nice, but that would be putting on the same level as a custom. Custom quality no, nice imported production quality knife yes.

It could be a grail of sorts.
We all have those knives that just speak to us and that becomes our grail knife or knives. Depends on opinion and preference. Some people see Chris Reeve Knives and up as grail.
Then there are some of us that don't have the money or just aren't into the way higher end knives like CRK and Customs that would see a beautiful folder that just speaks to them and seems perfect in every way.

Right now my ZT 0551 is my grail sort of. Once I get a custom scale for it, it will be even more so.

Grail may have been a bit of an over statement by the OP. Its really a personal thing. I don't really have any "grail" knife.

The fact that Mcusta is using Corian is interesting and a bit odd, so now I'm curious what they have in mind.

the term "grail" could be anything depending on the owner ;)

as far as the corian, ive never been a fan of how the stuff looks but im sure its durable stuff. ive owned several mcustas and all of them have had outstanding build quality and i would definitely put the nicer stuff they offer up there with higher end production knives and midtechs. they just lack the popularity of other brands and have very heavy asian influenced designs which dont appeal to everyone.

They only use Corian in one model as far as I can tell(?). Frankly I don't really understand what Corian is, other than it's not plastic, but it doesn't seem too far out of character for a company that offers 'faux-mascus' blades. Actually the Corian model w/"damascus" has been on and off my wish list for a couple years since I yearn for white-handled knives. That model does have finger grooves so slipperiness might not be too bad.

They have been using Corian for I think about 5 yrs. G.Sakai used Corian on a few models at about the same time. I like the Corian handles, they have some nice black Corian with colored speckling going on it looks cool,Kind of reminds me of a heavy duty Celluloid, which can also be nice.

What? Mcusta uses 33 layer nickel damascus laminated over VG-10. Unless you're talking about what people call damascus actually being pattern welding, and damascus not being technically correct.

When I think of damascus, in the contemporary market sense of the word, I think of it as being layered all the way through (as opposed to layered with a solid core.) Just an opinion which admittedly may or may not square with reality...

i agree that the damascus blades are more san mai than anything... still beautiful though

When I typed in "grail", I wasn't thinking of customs. I just think of customs as way beyond my means. I just dream of nice production knives, and I think the nicer production folders come from Seki City.
