Surprising Kershaw Problem

Guy at work just bought a Kershaw Vapor. Had the strangest ptoblem, when the blade was opened the lock couldn't slide over and lock the blade. After much fiddling he had to get him dremmel tool out and grind a teensy bit off the back of the blade so the lock would slide into place. I'm surprised that got passed the QA. I did note however that it was made in China. Are Chinese made Kershaws noted for problems or was this just one of those rare slipups?

im inclined to think its a rare slipup, i have not had a problem with any of my kershaw knives.

I have heard some people talking about blade blay in the od-1s form wal mart, but thats a fixable problem.

i have never heard of a knife not being able to lock up.

It's kind of a get what you pay for thing.

Kershaw tends to be a great value for your money, even on their lesser priced products.

I'm sure if you e-mailed Kershaw they would want to replace the knife for you. Their customer service is great.

I've got a Vapor that I've had for 3 or 4 years and it has zero defects...
Locked up solid and smoothly from the day I got it.

Matter of fact, I'm still impressed with the knife, Especially for 18 bucks.
It is made in China, but still is a very solid user.

I disagree.

I've owned several vapors and have bought and given away others as gifts to people I still talk to. I've never had a problem with any of them. They are a solid value for the money.

That's why I probably wouldn't buy a knife without trying it out first, if at all possible.

In my experience Kershaw has been very good in basically every aspect.

Must be a fluke. I was very pleased with the quality of my Vapor, considering the low price.

Guess this one must have been one of those rare slipups that happen from time to time. No big deal.

As for sending it back, not worth it, the cost in postage would probably be more than a new knife would cost. In any case it's OK now that a slight adjustment has been made.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll have him buying a Sebenza before long ..... :)

I didn't intend to knock the mans knife.I've had that knife and it performed well.I think all the major American knife companies have made good knives in China and they are getting better all the time.I do believe you are more likely to encounter a problem than with the American made and Q.C.'d product. We all see and many buy the Kershaw seconds due to inperfect edge bevels or something else many would never notice.
