I don’t start threads very often but I’m wondering what the consensus is here. I see myself as a discerning knife enthusiast & in touch with the contemporary trends. I scan most retailers websites regularly. I typically use two types of sorting when I browse... “New Arrivals” & “highest to lowest.” I look for reliable, serviceable, well made knives backed by a solid company. That’s not to say that I have an issue with newer companies. It really is that there are good aspects to knives and there are cut corners. And then there are even corners added... with questionable intentions and questionable results...

So I do see Hinderer knives as one of the best overall packages available. So what is a person buying when they sell their like new RHK for such a low price? What is your alternative & why is it considered? What are the important aspects of knives to a past, present & future RHK owner? Just curious.

Not claiming to know anything profound but I can share my experience with Hinderers, the old prior Gens were very hit and miss on qc. I avoided them for a long time. Finally bit the bullet on a gen 6 and it made all the difference. Many people rave about Gen 4 being the best heavy duty build with pb washers, I personally love the skinny with the gen 6 bearings. to each his own but I believe the lower prices you are seeing is a combination of increased supply of newer RHk's and people wanting to liquidate the previous Gens. It's kind of like when dirt bikes started making decent 4 stroke engines, the old 2 strokes fell by the way side and the market was flooded with low cost 2 stroke 250's

Its pretty nuts to think back to 10 years ago how much Hinderers were going for on the 2nd hand market to prices now. Guess it was mostly due to supply and demand. Before if you weren't EMT, Police, Fire Fighter, etc you werent buying a Hinderer for a reasonable price. Now they are abundant for retail and even cheaper 2nd hand. Saw some go for as low as $250.
I picked up a early generation XM-18 3 inch off the sale forum for around $300 a few weeks ago. Im a fan of the earlier models with no blade markings and spanto grind. Second hand prices its one of the better deals IMO for a well made american knife you can be proud to use.

"low priced" is relative to income. Just as "high priced" is.

I know there are some folk that think (or believe) that 3 grand and up (way up in a few cases) for a knife is "reasonable" and "affordable".*
Just as there are folk like me, for whom a standard production nothing fancy Case Sod Buster or Sod Buster Jr. slipjoint is "expensive".

* If they didn't, those custom knives I saw in BLADE magazine for 3 to 12 grand and more (mostly fixed blades) wouldn't sell.

Yep as has been stated the new gen 6's have pushed the prices down on previous gen's and even the new ones can be had at a significant discount on here. It you want to save on a great knife its a real win!

Must be that people like the triway much better. Grinds that do not come in triway yet (Bowie, Tantos, etc.) still fetch high prices (Tanto Harpoon, Bowie, etc.).

Good for me :) I started with triways, but it turns out I like Gen4 better anyways. When running on brass washers, action and detent feel just about perfect. Plus, the tang is more robust, and less risk of lock stick.

Was not really excited to sell my gen 4 especially when getting hosed.I may get one of the DLT exclusives 3.5 spanto, slicer or spear's without the choil knives. if offered again

The supply of Hinderers coming from the ranch finally caught up to the demand. Now there's plenty of XM-18s and other models sitting in stock at dealer shelves, and the secondary market reflects that now.

There are so many different Hinderers out there now, I know some people buy, sell, and trade frequently just to try them all out. The secondary prices may not be as high as they used to be, but they're still not bad for the seller, and they're almost guaranteed to sell quickly, because of Hinderer's reputation as a high quality brand.
