Cyber-talking with custom makers about final edge thickness I've found most make knives with 'thin' edges. Regardless of grind type (hollow, flat, Moran) the edge of the blade is somewhere between .010" and .020".

Now I'm wondering about production knives? Not custom or semi-custom. But straight from the factory blades between 2 and 4". Folders, tactical, hunters, skinners, hollow, flat, doesn't matter I'm interested in averages.

But, leave out bowies and other heavy use knives and very thin blades like fillet and small folders.

So, if you have a set of calipers could you please measure some blades an post an average? Measure right here:

Thanks,

Most of mine have been reprofiled, but here's the three that haven't, measured from the start of the edge bevel:
Spyderco Calypso Jr. ltwt. PE-.023"/~30 degrees included
BM 520-.018"/~30 degrees included
BM 940Ti-.016"/~40 degrees included
This seems backwards, when you look at the knives, (edited something I said backwards). Measuring 1/4" behind the edge, the order reverses, with the 940 being the thickest, and Calypso the thinnest.

So much for BM's thick edges, though :p

edit: my spare Vnox Recruit's main blade is .010", and AGR Deerhunter .011".

Hmmmm, I suppose most folks with production knives don't own calipers. Bummer 'cause I was really curious.

Thanks for the info Owen. You're knives are thinner than I'd expect for a production blade. In my book that's a good thing on a folder. Maybe that's why you didn't re-profile.
