Survival at Costco?

One would have to do a cost/benefit analysis, but I bet that preparing your own equivalent system with canned and dried foods would be more cost effective. And it would certainly give you more control.

A lady friend of mine is married to an ER doc, and she's just about as paranoid as I am. She bought a similar survival food system for her family (a year's worth) and it cost several grand. But it took her 5 minutes to place an internet order instead of a long time planning and purchasing. So to each is own.

I think it's pretty impressive. Moreso than any other pre-packed survival supply kit that I've seen anyways. I don't think the price is too bad for what you get either, but like Powernoodle said, I'm sure something similar could be done for cheaper if you wanted to put the time in.

Survival at Costco is making it through the checkout without rolling up your sleeve to give blood :)

There are lots of things you can buy that have long shelf life that you get at the grocery store:

Instant potatoes
Dry Milk
Rice
Pasta
Chocolate drink mix
coffee (vacuum bags)
canned meat - chicken, beef, tuna

Do some research on shelf life of foods, and you will be suprised. A couple hundred dollars worth of stuff now is money in the bank. Silver coins are good, but they taste terrible.

Don't forget a case of TP.

it's not a bad mix, and a much better price than you'd get ordering direct from their source.
