On October 5th, 2013, Indian Rock Nature Preserve (part of the Environmental Learning Center of Connecticut) will be hosting a Field Day event for all ages. Open to the public, this event will take place from 9am to 5pm and will feature outdoor professionals holding various seminars and demos throughout the day. If you've been to various gatherings, you've probably seen some cool skills. Here is your chance to see even more and a greater variety all in one place!
The purpose of the field day is to bring outdoor enthusiasts together from around the region to share knowledge with the public and among each other. The other purpose of this event is to raise money for charity. Each $5 admission fee will go to the Estela Wilderness Education Fund at the Main Street Community Foundation (501 (c)3 non-profit) which will help send the next generation of youth to the summer camp programs as well as provide financial assistance in youth programming.
I've been busy lining up presenters and can confirm at this time a plant walk by Marty Simon, a drift boat and fishing demo by CTfishguides.com, canoeing and kayaking by Mainstream Canoe and Kayak, a flint and steel seminar with Vern's Flint Strikers (Check him out on Ebay! Best strikers around!) and an African hunting/photo safari/general hunting exhibit by Primo Adventures as well as a few other surprises. As the Planning Committee Chair, I'm currently looking for other folks to show up and share what they know with anyone who wants to learn. Anyone interested can contact me here or on my website www.kevinestela.com.
It has been a while since I've posted much here on BF but I've been busy elsewhere. This event is lining up to be a great day and a way to ensure we help bring education to the next generation. I know this event has the potential to grow and hope you will all take interest in it during its first year.
Consider yourself invited!!! Bring the family and your friends. Please spread the word.
