I just recently received a bunch of videos from Dr. Ron Hood. I've seen his stuff in the past, primarily the 2 video intro set, and knew it would be high quality. For some reason, I procrastinated with buying the videos. I wish I hadn't.

THESE THINGS ARE GREAT! The guy is smart and funny, you know that if you've seen the intro clips on youtube, but his natural teaching abilities are second to none.

Let me say that I'm not new to this stuff. I have almost 30 years of SAR experience, including some leo mantracking under harsh conditions, and spend 4 years in army special forces. I've had numerous courses from the SAR and special ops angles.

However, you don't know what you don't know. It's amazing how much he packs into these videos.

If you haven't watched them, I'd recommend you get a set. I probably own every single survival book ever published but none scratch the surface of explaining the skills like these videos.

i got most of the set on vhs plus the cave cooking too. Ron was the guy that turned me onto busses. his videos are great because he is able to joke on camera where some other videos on survival are torture to watch because they are like a classroom.

How am I always getting to be the one to be third in recommending these threads when I come across them.

Ron & Karen do a great job!

I just wish I could make it out for Dirt Time. Some day..

Nevermind I found them, Now I just gotta lcate a place to buy them...cheaply I hope.

I kinda new, but in his trap making videos it appears he is a Busse fan.
Well it is probably not worth bringing up but Ron no longer recommends busse knives. Ron and Jerry had a bit of falling out so they parted ways.

You probably have an older trap making video because i am pretty sure that knife section on the busses was dropped per Jerry's request. Like i said probably not worth bringing up.

Seems high, I know. That's what held me back. Try the buy 5 and get one free plan.

The woodsmaster videos have general themes, fire, shelter, whatever, but there is some wandering that goes along with it, cordage for instance. You really need to see at least the first ones in order.

The content is far more indepth than any survival course I've taken and I've been to several. In other words, you do get your money's worth.

I didn't post a link earlier, I though everyone knew about them: http://survival.instantestore.net/default.cfm

From the price stated on the website you linked to, the whole series is less than half the price of a week at Tom Brown's School, taking the basic course.

Worth the money? Absolutely!!!!

I have a few more to get - gotta do my income tax. :(

Yeah, it's well worth the price, and I'm a TIGHTWAD.

I just bought the first six Woodsmasters. I'll try to buy a couple every now on then until I have all that I want.

I've WASTED many times that purchase price on the stacks of survival books, most of which just repeat the same stuff sometimes even using the same illustrations, which I've purchased through the years,

I have several of them and I highly recommend them. Not only informative, but entertaining. I even got the Mrs. to watch a few with me. It was payback for making me watch a movie on Lifetime. She got the better deal.

I ll also recommend the Hoods videos. They are loaded with info that isnt readily available from other sources. The videos are entertaining and easy to follow. The video format makes it much easier to understand and apply the info. $20 for a DVD seems pretty reasonable. I have had the pleasure of camping with the Hoods on a couple of occasions and have found Ron to be an incredable source of infromation on wide range of subjects. He has definately been there and done that.

They have a magazine coming out soon. It should cover survival realted topics across the board.

I'll second, third, fourth, whatever, the Hoods Woods videos. I think they are one of the best resources available in that format. Ron and Karen are great people and host an excellent site. I am fortunate enough to consider them friends.

Oakietree, Excellent picture of you in the water. Glad I was there!
