Survival from 1,000 feet?

wow.........he is built tougher than i am, i roll a few dozen ft own an embankment and i'm black and blue and beat to crap.....

lucky man!

There must be more to this story. Any true falls of 1000' are almost certainly fatal unless something very unusual happened. Maybe he slid rather than fell/rolled/bounced.

There was a case during WWII where a crewmember bailed out of a burning B-17 without his chute and survived. He was very fortunate in his landing location.

Here's a BBC Scotland News item with an interview with Adam Potter, the climber. More, here.

Lt Barker, the Royal Navy's Sea King helicopter crew's observer, said: "We began to hover-taxi down the slope and spotted a man at the bottom, standing up.

"We honestly thought it couldn't have been him, as he was on his feet, reading a map. Above him was a series of three high craggy outcrops.

"It seemed impossible. So we retraced our path back up the mountain and, sure enough, there were bits of his kit in a vertical line all the way up where he had obviously lost them during the fall.

"It was quite incredible. He must have literally glanced off the outcrops as he fell, almost flying."

It is truly amazing what the human body can survive.

That and a LIFETIME OF LUCK!!!! I would go buy a lottery ticket ASAP. ;)
