I know some of you have survival handbook, but which is the best (comprehensive vs space) and I could buy in a bookstore easily?

SAS survival guide, Wiseman, Collin GEM series, the size of a pack of cigarettes, 300+ pages.
found mine on amazon.co.uk.

I have and use the SAS Survival Guide, and it is amazingly complete and thorough on most subjects that would be useful in the wilderness. It also has some urban survival tactics.

Are you looking for wilderness survival (sharpen stick, kill deer, smoke meat) or for modern survival (put on gas mask, sharpen bowie, stay in bunker for long, long time)?

I like the survival flip book, i was able to find it in a barnes and noble.

Cool!
Thanks for all the help.
I'll probably pick one up soon.

Brothers & Sisters of Survival,
calyth et alia,

Doug Ritter's site (www.equipped.com) will give you a great run-down on the various publications. Secondly check: www.simplysurvival.com.

If you have any questions as to the best go to your local library and have them get several of your choices before buying. A water-proofed copy of anything is nearly essential. And where you can't find the "best" in any one book or manual use up the blank pages and write the essential information in yourself as reminders.

In addition to a good manual you might want to take an extensive first aid course. Even the simplest of calamities can turn a casual outing into a real nightmare without proper care.

Last resort? Cell phone and a GPS.

singularity: do you ahppen to have the ISBN for it? I found a couple of SAS survival guides from Wiseman but they don't seem to be the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Thanks! That sure nailed that down so I know which one it would be.

Singularity: That definately helps to because on one of the Canadian book stores, this version doesn't turn up quickly when I use the description SAS survival for the title and Wiseman for the author. ISBN always helps ;)

Calyth,
Good, I actualy own the bigger version, and the content is 100% the same.

I also have the small format GEM SAS Survial Manaul and I was thinking it has to be an abridged version. I'm glad to know I'm wrong!
